Biotechnology is a field of applied biology that involves the use of living organisms and bio-engineering, technology, medicine and other biological products. Biotechnology is also used to manufacture these products. The conditions include similar use modern genetic engineering and cell culture technologies and fabrics. The concept covers a wide range of procedures (and history) in exchange for living organisms according to the needs of man - dating back to the domestication of animals, cultivation of plants, and "improvements" to these programs through improvement that the use of artificial selection and hybridization. Compared with biotechnology, bioengineering is generally considered a field related to their greater emphasis on systemic approaches to high (not necessarily change or use of biological materials directly) to interact with and use of living things. The United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity defines biotechnology as: [1]
"Any technological application that uses biological systems, living organisms or derivatives thereof to make or modify products or processes for specific use."
In other words "the application of scientific and technical advances in life sciences to develop commercial products," is biotechnology.
Biotechnology is based on pure biological science (genetics, microbiology, animal cell culture, molecular biology, biochemistry, embryology, cell biology) and in many cases depends on the knowledge and methods from outside the field of biology (chemical engineering, bioengineering, information technology, Biorobotics). By contrast, the modern biological sciences (including concepts such as ecology, even molecular) are closely linked and dependent on the methods developed by biotechnology and what is commonly regarded as the industry life sciences.
